When eLearning Becomes a Tool for Protection: A Project That Became Personal

By Anna Beltran (Co-Founder, Framedia | Digital Learning Strategist)

Over the years, we have developed eLearning programs focused on protecting women and children, but our most recent project carried a particular weight. As a mother living in a country where cases of child trafficking remain a serious concern, working on eLearning for child protection felt deeply personal—because of its urgency, its audience, and its potential for real-world impact.

Partnering with ECPAT International

In late 2025, we had the privilege of being selected as a partner vendor by ECPAT International, taking on the role of E-Learning Development Team for an important and deeply meaningful initiative. Together, we developed the eLearning module “Is Your Short-Term Rental Home or Property Truly Child-Safe?”—a course designed specifically for hosts and partners of accommodation booking platforms.

From the very beginning, this project stood out, not only because of its purpose, but because of the people behind it.

The ECPAT team provided clear, well-developed scripts and thoughtfully relayed the terms of reference. We kicked things off collaboratively, brainstorming and developing a pilot to demonstrate initial design concepts and the intended user experience.

An honest and collaborative journey

I’ll be the first to admit, we didn’t get it right the first time.
We missed the mark.

That moment required us to take a long breath, pause, reset, and return to our fundamentals. We revisited every detail of the brief, re-read the requirements carefully, and took a deeper look at the audience, the tone, and most importantly the responsibility that came with developing this course.

After several thoughtful iterations, we presented again.
That moment was nerve-wracking, but it became a turning point.

This time, it clicked. We had finally hit the mark, and the sense of relief was matched by renewed confidence in the direction we were heading.

Bringing structure, clarity, and meaning

From there, we brought in our expertise to enhance engagement and retention, reorganizing the content into three clear and memorable themes:

See it. Spot it. Stop it.

Once this framework was approved, everything else naturally fell into place. Adjustments became more purposeful, and the overall learning experience grew stronger, clearer, and more impactful.

Working closely with Gabriela and Danuta from the ECPAT team throughout this process was a true collaboration—open, constructive, and deeply respectful of the shared goal we were working toward.

Seeing the impact firsthand

Last week, I had the honor of being invited to the course’s webinar launch as a technical speaker. I presented a short demo, walking participants through the eLearning interface, interactive elements, assessments, and overall learner experience.

What stayed with me most, however, was listening to the other speakers: short-term rental property owners themselves. Their reflections and insights were incredibly affirming. They described the course as intuitive, easy to navigate, thoughtfully designed, and visually engaging.

But the most powerful response went beyond usability.

It was when they shared how the course made them feel empowered.

These are business owners who, day to day, focus on revenue, guest satisfaction, and maintaining high ratings. Yet this eLearning helped them recognize another critical responsibility. In the unfortunate event that they encounter signs of child exploitation or trafficking within their properties, the course equips them with awareness, confidence, and clear, practical steps to respond appropriately and to play an active role in preventing such situations from happening.

eLearning for child protection and online safety trainingPurpose behind the work

This project holds a special place in my heart.

Witnessing the direct impact of this course, how it resonates with learners and empowers them to take action, has been especially meaningful. Even after almost 25 years in the eLearning industry, creating digital learning experiences as effective alternatives to classroom or face-to-face training, moments like this remind us why we do what we do.

When thousands of learners engage with a course and carry that knowledge into real-world action, the work becomes more than content.
It becomes purpose.

We are incredibly proud and deeply thankful to have been part of this initiative with ECPAT International.

The ECPAT eLearning is free and publicly accessible to hosts and partners of accommodation booking platforms.
You can access the course here Available in English and Spanish.
